A Day in the Life of a Student in Exciting Frankfurt

After a lengthy flight lasting precisely 24 hours and 40 minutes, I touched down in Frankfurt, where the city greeted me with its cold, shivering weather and rain pelting down on the cobbled paths. The initial 5 minutes in this new environment felt more daunting than my extended flight. Not only was I confronted with the biting chill of January winter, but also the curious stares of passers-by as I struggled with my heavy suitcases. It seemed as though my jacket bore the weight not only of the cold but also the flicker of hope within my heart for what lay ahead. However, amidst the tumult of emotions, I mustered the courage to seek assistance and navigate my way to my accommodation. In the most unexpected faces, I found help, embodying the essence of Frankfurt—a city that challenges but also offers warmth to those who persevere.
The culture of self-reliance runs deep within German society, presenting a stark contrast to the coddling many young adults are accustomed to. It serves as a realistic initiation into the journey of adulthood, demanding resilience and preparedness for the challenges ahead.

As Monday morning dawned, I stepped out of my accommodation, greeted by the sun’s warmth, only to find snow beneath my feet—a stark reminder of Frankfurt’s penchant for the unexpected. Embarking on my first day at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, I entered a realm renowned for its expertise in finance and strategy. My classmates, hailing from diverse backgrounds, contribute to a rich tapestry of perspectives within our small cohort of 20 individuals. Likewise, our professors, drawn from various industries, offer carefully curated electives that mirror the evolving landscape of their respective fields.
The course structure encourages active participation, fostering engagement through discussions, individual assignments, and group presentations. Additionally, daily gaming simulations serve as practical assessments of our understanding, adding a layer of complexity to our academic journey. Despite the weight these simulations carry in our grades, they provide a dynamic platform to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, fostering camaraderie among classmates as we navigate the challenges together.

My mornings commence at 7 am, punctuated by a brief respite—a chocolate croissant from the subway bakery—before a flurry of activity ensues, coordinating bus and train schedules to ensure timely arrival at college. Once on campus, the warmth of camaraderie and the comfort of familiar faces greet me, easing the rigors of the day ahead. From 9 am to 6 pm, I immerse myself in lectures and group projects, relishing the opportunity for peer learning and collaboration.
As the day draws to a close, I contemplate dining options, torn between a favourite Vietnamese restaurant and the prospect of preparing a meal at home. With the support of my dear friend Priyanshi, navigating the challenges of Frankfurt becomes a shared endeavour, enriching our experiences and strengthening our bond.
Amidst academic demands, we carve out moments for relaxation, exploring the vibrant shopping districts, strolling along the riverside, and immersing ourselves in the history of the old town. The art of balance becomes a guiding principle, as Frankfurt teaches me to honour the boundaries between work and leisure, fostering a holistic approach to life.
Despite initial reservations, I embrace the rhythm of Frankfurt, eagerly anticipating the opportunities for growth, learning, and discovery that lie ahead. As I navigate the challenges and joys of this dynamic city, I remain steadfast in my commitment to falter, learn, grow, and smile through it all.
